This is our unique
African story
It all begins with the marula fruit. Amarula Gin captures the unique spirit of Africa – inviting us to experience what it is to be carefree, and to share that feeling with others.
For thousands of Years
In the wild landscapes of South Africa elephants, drawn by the fragrance of marula fruits have surrounded the flourishing trees in anticipation. It is a signal the local people know well – the time has come to begin the gathering of fruits.
Carefully collected by hand, then washed, destoned, pulped and cooled, the marula fruits are honoured at every stage. The ripening of the Marula fruit in summer coincides with great celebrations in many parts of Southern Africa.
In Swaziland, for example, the annual Marula Festival is celebrated at the king’s royal residence, sustaining the belief that the Marula fruit is fit for kings and queens.
Like the elephants, the Marula trees are protected under South African law. They are a key part of African heritage and may not be farmed for commerce. The fruit however is sold in a variety of natural products, Amarula of course being one of them.
